Aprile’s Memorial French Bulldogs Special Needs Support Services

“Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.”
— Barack Obama
Our Mission
We advocate and provide support services for the protection, safety and care of special needs and handicapped French Bulldogs who are being abandoned, surrendered to shelters and rescues and being euthanized.

The Problem
There is an epidemic in the US facing French Bulldogs. With many Legislators across the US having banned pet stores from selling dogs to prevent inhumane breeding, puppy-millers are now passing themselves off as responsible breeders selling their dogs over the internet.
The majority of French Bulldog breeders selling dogs online literally breed their dogs to death. Then when they are finished exploiting these dogs, or the dogs need medical treatment, they abandon them on the sides of roads or throw them away in dumpsters. These dogs spend their entire lives in a cage stacked on top of other dogs in cages. They are never let out of their cages except to breed. Their cages are left filthy, full of excrement and urine. They receive no Veterinary care and have nothing to look forward to but dying.
The French Bulldogs bred by these puppy-millers are unhealthy as the puppy-millers, motivated by greed, spread unacceptable color genes through the gene pool in order to produce puppies with rare “fad” colors that they sell for inflated prices. The results are genetically altered puppies with a myriad of serious health issues that they suffer from throughout their lives. A responsible breeder will only breed quality puppies that conform to the French Bulldog Breed Standard.
Stop And Think - Educating Future French Bulldog Owners
We advocate for a “Stop And Think” Educational Program being implemented and enforced by responsible breeders (defined as one with a proven history of breeding healthy dogs and respecting the breed standard), the AKC, veterinarians and animal welfare organizations to support their active commitment to the protection of French Bulldogs.
People must be educated before they get a French Bulldog about how to find a responsible breeder, the extensive health issues of the breed and need to show they can meet the financial responsibilities that come with owning a French Bulldog as well as understand the necessity of having pet insurance. We provide support to these pet parents by helping them navigate the process in order to lessen the number of special needs French Bulldogs being given up for adoption.

Ending French Bulldog Suffering - Education and Advocacy
It can cost several thousand dollars just to stabilize a French Bulldog who can have IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease) of the neck or spine and may require an additional $5,000 or more for an MRI. Educating people about who these online French Bulldog puppy-millers really are and how buying a puppy from them is supporting the suffering of the dogs being forced to breed every six months for their entire lives while living with unspeakable emotional and physical abuse and the physically damaged puppies they birth. People need to know how to find a responsible breeder or who the legitimate rescues are where they can adopt a Frenchie. Our hope is that you will choose to ADOPT AND NOT SHOP.
Aprile’s Memorial French Bulldog Special Needs Support Services is deeply committed to partnering with French Bulldog rescues around the country so together we can develop programs that are critical to achieving the common goal we all are deeply committed to, which is helping French Bulldogs any way we can and saving their lives.
